The quip was easy...coming up with an answer to d^Vid’s question is a little harder. Suspension...letting go of gravity and letting someone else take charge of right-side up and upside down. Putting your trust into the skills of another and the quality of the ropes used to bind you. When Fisherman wraps his ropes around my flesh, he takes control of me because I have consented to give him that power. That is an exchange we both covet and need in our D/s relationship. When I am fully suspended and thwart gravity, allowing Fisherman to control that as well, I doubly gift Fisherman with my submission. Not only has he restrained my limbs in whatever way he desires, but he is also the only thing that keeps gravity at abeyance. His ropes become not only his artistic tools but also the lifeline that keeps me from crashing to the ground. Trust figures heavily in suspension. He trusts me to be in good shape and honest about what I am feeling. I trust him to listen to what I say and to read my body language when words are no longer available. Suspension tests not only the physical conditioning of both of us but it also tests our trust in each other and reaffirms our D/s roles. |
