Pirate Fleet

Every pirate needs a sleek and sturdy ship to transport his crew and plunder as they wreak havoc upon the high seas. Speed was vital as it allowed pirates to quickly overtake an opponent, and rapidly escape if needed. A shallow draft enabled the pirates to hide in shallow waters that larger warships could not enter.

While many types of ships were used by pirates, the sloop was preferred due to it's good speed and shallow draft. Unfortunately, pirates usually did not have much of a choice as to what their vessel would be as they generally started their careers and acquired their first ships by mutiny.

Captain Fisherman, the notorious marauder of the Gulf Islands, has been pirating for many a year, and he has a sailing ship that many consider to be the finest to ever grace these waters. In preparation for the Pirate Adventure, he has finely tuned the Mate's rigging, assembled a motly fleet crewed by scurvy dogs, and has ordered the Bos'n to clear the decks for action.

La Beale Isoud is a sleek Norris-designed cutter-rigged sloop built specifically for the slave trade. Since her extensive 2000-hour refit in 2002, she has plyed the Gulf Islands transporting her sadistic crew to almost unspoiled islands to wreak their havoc.

Length: 45'
Displacement: 18 tons
Officers: Master, Mate, Bos'n
Crew: 12 scallywags
Sail area: 1,200 square feet
Weapons: 19 deck guns
Built: 1781, Portsmouth, England

While onboard La Beale Isoud, maritime law and the lash of the Bos'n require that you obey all orders of the Master and Mate.

Under the command of the She Devil of The Sea, Tillikum is true greyhound of the sea. She's ideally suited for lightning raids into ports for a spot of looting and ransacking. The Tillikum's motto 'ye are well and truly fucked', has special meaning to her crew, and for the passengers of many a BC Ferry.

Length: 27'
Displacement: 18 tons
Officers: Master, Mate
Crew: 4 scallywags
Sail area: 960 square feet
Weapons: 8 deck guns
Built: 1792, Boston

While onboard the Tillikum, maritime law and the lash of the Mate require that you make nasty faces at La Beale Isoud and mock her scurvy crew.

Rafted together while anchored at Flogger Cove, La Beale Isoude and Tillikum appear deceptively peaceful.

This is a clever tactic designed to lure unsuspecting ships into range...

The crew of La Beale Isoude hail a merchant loaded with spice and rum, (maybe the crew was a bit loaded...) as the Captain closes within cannon range.
After a brutal battle, the captured merchant is placed under tow.

With her Jolly Roger flying, La Beale Isoude and her crew head into Montague Harbour for a weekend of debauchery at the Pirate's Lair.

The Ship's Boats

Last year while plundering and looting, a load of fine Honduran mahogany and teak was captured, and the Captain authorized the carpenter to build two new ship's boats; the jolly boat and the long boat.

The jolly boat, modeled after a late model land yacht, is designed for raids ashore and forrays into uncharted costal villages. The cargo carrying capacity of this boat is amazing; but it is important to obey the instructions of the coxswain to keep the load stable and prevent stability problems caused by overloading. You'll see the jolly boat in Sturdies Bay, Montague Harbour, and on the chocks at Pirate's Lair while the carpenter caulks it's seams.

The long boat, modeled after a nameless pirate with an over inflated ego, is used mainly for transferring pirates to and from shore when La Beal Isoud is at anchor. The long boats speed makes it ideally suited as an emergency life saving boat in the event that someone walks the plank. The long boat will be used in Montague Harbour and at Flogger's Cove.

Sturdies Bay jolly boat transfers

The jolly boat will provide transportation to/from Sturdies Bay for BC Ferry sailings between 10 am Friday 22 August and 1 pm Sunday August 24. Please email First Mate Fish to confirm pick up.
