No matter what kind of ship is sailing on the sea, a purser must be on board. This is the person who is responsible for the legal papers, finances, and comfort of those on the vessel. Without these hard workers, ships might never be allowed into domestic waters, the crews might never be paid, and the luggage might be lost at sea. | ![]() |
| Luckily, ships have pursers and their assistants, who ensure none of those things ever happen. If you heed the instructions of the purser, your luggage and you may survive the journey and arrive in one piece. | ||
| Luggage: As La Beale Isoud is a working pirate ship, her capacity to carry luggage is limited and all pirates are limited to a carry on day pack that contains items essential for the sea-borne portion of your pirate adventure. Your day pack should contain items such as a warm jacket, sun hat, beach clothing, sunscreen, and personal medications. For pirates sailing from Canoe Cove to the Pirate's Lair, you are encouraged to pack a small cooler or bag with a picnic-style supper, beverages, and nonbreakable utensils. If you are sailing to or from the Pirate's Lair, you are entitled to have your bedding and luggage transported by the jolly boat (courtesy van). Each pirate may bring tightly packaged bedding, and a reasonable amount of luggage. Please bring toothpaste, toothbrush, towels, soap, shampoo, other toiletries and your sleeping bag and pillow. All luggage and bedding must be clearly labeled with your name and phone number, and securely fastened to prevent it from exploding like a cheap four-pounder cannon. The capacity to ship luggage is limited; please use common sense and consideration. Fragile items and electronics should be
placed in a waterproof container or wrapped in plastic, and placed in
the center of your luggage surrounded by soft items. Luggage drop-off: For pirates travelling to Pirate's Lair aboard La Beale Isoud: your luggage must be dropped off at the designated location no later than 9:00 pm on Thursday 21 August. If you are connecting directly with La Beale Isoud, contact First Mate Fish for instructions. For pirates travelling to
Canoe Cove aboard La Beale Isoud: your luggage must be dropped off at the
van pickup point no later than 1:00 pm
on Sunday 24 August. The Schwartz Bay Government Wharf is a 10 to 15 minute walk the BC Ferries parking lot. For passengers sailing on La Beale Isoud, the jolly boat will drop off your luggage at the foot of the Government Wharf. There is no porter service for luggage or transfer service to/from the BC Ferries parking lot. It
is your responsibilty to ensure that your luggage is in the place at the
right time. Your kit bag - what to
bring: Foam to sleep on in the tent would be a wise item to pack. Unless, of course, you are a serious masochist. Although tents are provided, we can always use more; please email First Mate Fish if you are able to bring one. While at Pirate's Lair, styrofoam and
plastic cups are provided. If you prefer to drink from a proper cup or
mug, please bring your own and be prepared to wash it yourself or have
your slave wash it for you. NOTE: Antibacterial products are not allowed, as they will interfere with the proper operation of the septic system that serves the cabin. These products must not be used, so please leave them at home.

| The Ship's boats:
Last years while plundering and looting, a load of fine Honduran mahogany and teak was captured, and the Captain authorized the carpenter to build two new ship's boats; the jolly boat and the long boat. The jolly boat, modeled after a late model land yacht, is designed for raids ashore and forrays into uncharted costal villages. The cargo carrying capacity of this boat is amazing; but it is important to obey the instructions of the coxswain to keep the load stable and prevent stability problems caused by overloading. You'll see the jolly boat in Sturdies Bay, Montague Harbour, and on the chocks at Pirate's Lair while the carpenter caulks it's seams. The long boat, modeled after a nameless pirate with an over inflated ego, is used mainly for transferring pirates to and from shore when La Beal Isoud is at anchor. The long boats speed makes it ideally suited as an emergency life saving boat in the event that someone walks the plank. The long boat will be used in Montague Harbour and at Flogger's Cove. |
