The Glass Heart

You asked me to give you my trust.
With trepidation, love, and utter faith,
Faith in your declaration,
I handed my beating heart of fine-spun glass.
Believing it was secure, safely held,
In your capable hands.
I believed you to be a man among men
The only one for me.
Promises were made, an offer tendered.
How happy I was knowing that with you
My trust and love were safe from all harm
For all time.
Today that fragile heart lies in pieces
Bleeding into the ground. It is shattered.
A million shards of glass rip through my veins
Tearing me apart, leaving me wondering
If there is any way that broken heart,
That fragile trust, can ever be repaired.
Neglect is the poison that can kill a field of flowers.
Passion and colour dulled, no longer pleasing to the eye
The emptiness of desolation where once was glory
Hope gone, darkness of rain clouds,
The earth parched but no rain to fall, promises broken.
